Code Compliance: ACI 318-19, ACI 318-08, BNBC-2020

Note:1 Joint Type: I – Column Continuous or Column extension is provided that satisfies ACI 15.2.6

As per ACI 15.2.6 – A column extension assumed to provide continuity through a beam-column joint in the direction of joint shear considered shall satisfy (a) and (b):

  1. The column extends above the joint at least one column depth, h, measured in the direction of joint shear considered.
  2. Longitudinal and transverse reinforcement from the column below the joint is continued through the extension.

If either of a) and b) does not satisfy then the Joint Type will be-II

Note:3 C- Transverse Beam Provide Confinement in accordance with ACI 15.2.8.

As per ACI 15.2.8 beam-column joint shall be considered to be confined for the direction of joint shear considered if two transverse beams satisfying (a), (b) and (c) are provided:

  1. Width of each transverse beam is at least three-quarters of the width of the column face into which the beam frames
  2. Transverse beams extend at least one beam depth h beyond the joint faces
  3. Transverse beams contain at least two continuous top and bottom bars satisfying 9.6.1.2 and No. 3 or larger stirrups satisfying 9.6.3.4 and 9.7.6.2.2 sec. of ACI 318-08
Reference: ACI 318-19

Note:4 NC- Transverse Beam is not provided or transverse beam does not provide confinement in accordance with ACI 15.2.8
